Durian Feast... Finally

Last night, the happening group went out for dinner at Balestier, we had Bak Kut Teh at a coffee shop, which I have no idea whats the name. But Jennifer and S.E.O. arrived first and they went to "chup" a table there for us. Hahaha... me and hubby went to pick Jac up before heading to Balestier. They, the typical Sporean, loved that Bak Kut Teh (peppery type). But not me, as I am from Butterworth, my fav version of Bak Kut Teh is the herbal ones. With lots of mushrooms in it. Even the thought of it makes me drool. I will take some pics of this Bak Kut Teh when I next go back to Penang, perhaps, CNY (if they are open during CNY, never know).

After dinner, we had it planned. This time, die die must go to that durian stall which we missed it last month. (we found out later from the uncle that they were closed for the whole month of Aug as there weren't much good durians around). Finally, Combat Durian!!! Here we are.

We all agreed, that these were the best Mao Shan Wang durians and only $12/kg. Reasonable for the quality we were getting. Damn good I have to say. I can be very picky when it comes to durians, I only like them not too wet, not too dry, not too chunky and chewy, not bitter, but sweet and creamy and melts in your mouth. These ones, won me over and I will definitely go there again for good durians. I am now , planning to bring my MIL there one of these weekends as she loves durians too.

So, to all of you durian lovers out there, if you want good durians, do try Combat Durian at Balestier. Its next to a temple, just by the road side. Not to worry, they provide water for washing your hands before and after eating your yummy durians, and free drinking water too.

As these fruits are known to be heaty, its a norm to eat mangosteen after durian feasting.

Dessert Dessert... and more dessert...and more food..

Kim ordered a small Bailey's cheesecake for her friend's birthday on Friday. Glad to know they enjoyed the cake.

And as I was meeting AGENT ZERO and Michelle on Friday for dinner, I made a small brownies with lots of chocolates chips in it, and I sprinkled lots more on the top before baking. Yum yum... Crispy at the top and gooey at the bottom. I cut small little pieces and packed for Simone the night before so its easy for her to eat them while on her way to work the next day and she came home telling me they are the best brownies she had ever eaten. Thats makes all the effort worth while..

I decided to meet at Hougang Central instead, as I made them travel all the way from Shenton way for Michelle and Bishan for ZERO(but I found out that he went back home to CCK before he drove over to meet us). I try to arrange for a venue not too far from my home, as I can't take long distance of travelling due to my back pain.
Anyway the food at the Food Court is extremely expensive to my taste. I ordered white rice with curry chicken, brinjal and peanuts. And freaking paid $6.00 for this. Auntie forgotten to "splash" some curry on the rice, so when I went back there to ask for curry, after she did so, she said "Enjoy your meal".. eh eh.. not bad heh.. for an auntie to wish you that at a food court.. no wonder the meal was so expensive. And when I told Michelle that, she said I better enjoy that meal. Hahaha.. you know what we meant. :oP
On Saturday noon, I was too lazy to go out for lunch, more over my back pain has not totally recover yet, infact I am still feeling the pain as I m sitting here and typing my blog. Ouchhhh....So, I thought I will just cook some noodles (though I dislike instant noodles), but do I have much choices? Not really. Can't be too picky now, so I just cooked some noodles for lunch yesterday, and thank GOD, I found some cheese cuttlefish balls in the freezer, and I added an egg to the last boil and tah dahhhh.....That was my lunch yesterday. But I am hungry now, and I got sick of instant noodles already. So I decided to just drink water, and I am lucky again, found some pears in the fridge, courtesy of Eric, my Godbrother. He bought me some fruits when he came to collect some mails from me few days ago...Anyway.. I better go eat my pear now. Bubyeeee....

What Have I Been Doing ?

Some of you must be wondering what have I been doing at home since I m on MC? Well, when I am given MC, means, I m unwell. When one is unwell, there isn't much you can do but stay home and rest. I did the same, but it would be bored to death doing nothing, hence I was "busy" watching my Hong Kong TVB drama E.U. "學警狙擊"

Loved the show. Quite some time ago, I'd read somewhere, that there is this character called "Laughing gor" (meaning brother Laughing), acted by Michale Tse. Everyone seems to go crazy over him, or much to say, this Laughing gor character in the show, which indirectly made him a famous man overnight. Michael has been a TVB actor for many years but was never famous until acting as Laughing. He was always a villain in all, or I would say, most of the shows he had acted in. But this time round, he is an undercover cop. But the sad thing, he died in the show. And seems like many fans are rather unhappy with the death of his character, that TVB has decided to come up with another series called Laughing gor itself, yes, a series named after his character. Its gonna be a hit cos everyone is looking forward to this show, me too!!!

Thats Laughing gor (front).

Michael Tse(left) and Michael Miu(right). I love these both Michaels.

Aren't they cute? Put them together and its Damn Cute lar... Hehe....:D

Resting at home

Been given MC for 2 days from the Osteopath that I went to yesterday. I had to go out for lunch as there was nothing for me to eat at home. I m not an instant noodles person, so didn't stock up some at home. I woke up late morning, after some lazing in bed, I finally got out of bed, washed up and went out to buy lunch. Before I came back, I went to the NTUC nearby and bought some ingredients to cook for dinner so I won't have to go out again. Too much walking is not good for my current situation. It was a long day for me today. But I fell asleep at the sofa while watching tv. Too tired I guess. Somehow I have this thought that my sofa is an energy sucker. Whenever I sit there, I feel so tired and drained. LOL...

I have always love this soup, I have no idea where its originated from, but I learnt this from Supermommy and according to her, once upon a time, my Superpapa brought her to this place in KL for hokkien food (we are hokkien, you see... but Supermommy is Hainanese). Superpapa loved this soup and Supermommy learnt how to cook this and eventually it became everyone's favourite dish at home. Its a must for me to have whenever I go home to Kulim. And without me asking, Supermommy just know that she has to cook this when I am around. Definitely brings excitement to her Superdaughter, me. Hehe..

We call it "bakau tng".. reason being, in Hokkien, "bak" means meat(mainly refering to pork).. but meat in general.. "kau" means starch and "tng" means soup. This soup consists of omelette, cut into smaller pieces, and mushrooms, preferably dried mushrooms that have been soak for hours, but I always use shiitake mushrooms. (too lazy to soak them in advance plus I don't really like the taste of dried mushrooms, some taste really weird), and last but not least, meat that has been coated with corn flour to make it starchy and look smooth. Oh yeah..they taste slimy and smooth in the mouth too. Love this. Anyway, here are some glimpse of it.

Just this soup with a bowl of white rice, completes my meal. Simone joined me for dinner as she just got home from work and I cooked extra for her too. She liked it as much as I did. And her bowl was super clean. Yeah, she walloped everything. (Notice the newspaper under the dishes? When you are too lazy to wipe the table after meals and do not have a maid to do so, then you just lay all the dishes over sheets of old newspapers... wuahaha.. )

Remember the Family T-Shirt I was talking about few days ago? Yeah, found some good sales for Giordano polo T for the boys and V neck cotton for Supermommy and me. When the designs are up and printed, will show you more.

Back Pain

My back pain never seems to get any better and I am desperately in need to seek for some help, medical help I mean. I managed to get an appt with Dr.Haynes Andrew from The Osteopathy and Podiatry Pte Ltd at Tanglin Shopping Centre. I called this morning to make an appt and to my dismay, there is only 1 osteopath on duty as the other one is one leave the whole week. And his appt slots are all taken up. But I begged the recept for an appt, stating that I am in pain and I can't wait till next week to see the doc and I have no idea which other osteopath is good as this one is highly recommended by a friend. Best part, I was told there are 6 more ppl in pain too and they are already in the queue and they can't squeeze in no more. Aikssss...

I suggested that she squeeze me in one of the slot and I do not mind waiting but she said NO very clearly as they go strictly by appt only. She managed to slot me in for a Thurs slot at 2pm, but I insist that I do not mind being put on waiting list for tomorrow, and to confirm the Thurs appt, just in case no one cancel for tomorrow's. But GOD heard my prayer (and more beggings), that HE must have made someone cancel his/her appt tomorrow, so Angie called me to confirm my appt for 3pm tomorrow. I will still be going to the office in the morning as Melissa has to attend a meeting at HS for the launching of our new office. I will leave in the noon time.

Lets hope that this session will help to ease the pain a little, as I understand that docs are human and they can't make the pain vanish over a session. Could only pray hard and have faith in GOD, the doc and myself. LOL...

Chocolate Lava Cake aka Molten Chocolate Cake

Woke up around almost noon time. My back pain wasn't any better. And I feel so tired and even more lazy by now. The day looked sunny earlier, so Superhubby suggested we go for a swim, knowing how much I love to swim in the sun and to get some tanning at the same time. It has been a long time since I get to swim in the sun, needless to say, getting the tan.

Thank GOD the outdoor pool wasn't that crowded and I managed to swim in peace, meaning without everyone knocking into me or that I have to stop for others along the lap.

After we left the pool, we finally managed to check out the kite flying around that area. We always drove pass and never get the chance to check out more, as I have always wanted to fly a kite, high high above the sky. We ever bought a damn cheap kite, for $5 and it refused to fly. LOL... That was sometime ago, last year. Now, these ones are the professional, or almost professional types. Some of the kites even use the parachute material and a 1.5m kite can easily cost $50, excluding the string and its casing. The one I like is bigger and cost about $90, and with the string and casing, cost $115.00. I didn't carry so much cash just now, so I will have to go back there the week after next. I can't wait to get my hands on the kite and start flying it up up high above the sky.

Came home feeling hungry. So I made the Chocolate Lava Cake aka Molten Chocolate Cake.
